The series of the Metro commenced in 2011 as part of a workshop with the German photographer Heidi Specker called “Another World” organized by Max Mueller Bhavan. The location of the series 2.1- C.M.H. road at Bangalore East- captures the Indiranagar station. These photographs were taken during the construction phase and the following text is an extract from the series description pertaining to the workshop.

“The transformation of a bustling street that is the lifeline of Indiranagar. The Metro is essential to the city, but its introduction in a neighbourhood has taken away the basic essence of a lively street. The gigantic, supporting columns miniscule every other element that is part of the streetscape, from buildings under construction to existing stores that have been there for years. Is it ‘another world’ that we want to be a part of? “

The more recent visuals of the subsequent series have been photographed primarily on M.G. road from the M.G. road station to the Trinity station. These series capture the essence of the urban landscape in relation to the supporting structures forming the metro. There is a sense of intrusion that does not complement but adds layers and defines the cityscape.

Metro: a quintessential part of the Indian urban landscape.
